Erich Frey 9ct Yellow Gold, Haematite and Mother-of-Pearl Enhancer Pendant

The large enhancer pendant is flat and is bordered by a somewhat egg-shaped oval frame. The frame contains various curved elements, and curved and curly openwork details, and is set at the top with a flat, crescent-shaped panel of mother-of-pearl nacre, and towards the bottom with a bezel-set, cabochon-polished haematite gemstone (circa 5ct). A hinged bale is affixed to the top of the pendant frame, and includes an enhancer clip behind a shaped panel, to allow the pendant to be attached to a chain, rope, or string of pearls or beads. “9ct” and “E. FREY” is hand-etched on the rear of the pendant.

Erich Frey (1914-2007) was a highly-regarded, German born, gold and silversmith, who came to South Africa after the 2nd World War and set up shop in Pretoria. He was well-known for distinctive Modernist style jewellery produced mainly in the 1970’s and 80’s.

Please note: the string of pearls and the black silk rope shown in the images are for display purposes only and are not included with the pendant.
