White Metal and Galalith Bracelet attributed to Jakob Bengel
White Metal and Galalith Bracelet attributed to Jakob Bengel
The vintage white metal bracelet is in the Art Deco style and is decorated with elements made of black galalith. Galalith is a synthetic plastic material which is made from the interaction of casein and formaldehyde, which was frequently used in Art Deco style jewellery, especially by Jakob Bengel. The white metal sections are decorated with embossed designs. The bracelet tapers towards the closure. The bracelet is unmarked but has the characteristics of Jakob Bengel jewellery from the 1930’s.
Jakob Bengel was a chain and costume jewellery factory, founded by Jakob Bengel in 1873 in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Until 1920, the company specialized in the production of watch chains and chatelaines. In the 1920s and 1930s, it became one of the leading manufacturers of fashion jewellery in the Art Deco style.
