Vintage Erich Frey Sterling Silver and Tiger’s Eye Brooch Pendant
The vintage brooch is crafted in sterling silver, and features four rectangular elements affixed to the top of a base silver bar. The two outer rectangular elements are folded V-shapes with granulated and slightly oxidised silver detailing in the fold; and the two inner rectangular elements have polished tiger’s eye gemstones (circa 15mm x 11.5mm) in bezel settings. The rear of the brooch features a pin and clip, and pins of brooches of this era were often positioned such that the pin and clips could be suspended from a chain or rope and the brooch worn alternatively as a pendant. The rear is stamped “e. frey” and “925” for sterling silver.
Erich Frey (1914-2007) was a highly-regarded, German born, gold and silversmith who came to South Africa after the 2nd World War and set up shop in Pretoria. He was well-known for distinctive Modernist style jewellery produced mainly in the 1970’s and 80’s.
Please note: the string of pearls and the black silk rope shown in the images are for display purposes only and are not included with the pendant.
