Antique Sterling Silver Vesta Case on Chain Necklace
The sterling silver necklace is made up of a silver curb chain, with a bolt-ring closure. marked “STERLING” on the bolt ring, supporting an antique silver matchbox vesta case pendant.
The vesta case has engraved floriate and foliate decoration back and front and has a vacant cartouche (for possible engraving of a monogram). The vesta has a hinged lid and a gilt interior as well as a striking surface at the bottom and a small fixed ring with a hinged ring bale. The vesta is marked with the lion passant, sterling mark; the hallmark for Birmingham; the date letter for 1905; and the maker’s mark for William Hutton & Sons.
