14ct Yellow and White Gold, Sapphire, Diamond, Ruby and Pearl Necklace
The vintage, three-strand, pearl necklace consists of an intricate and irregularly-shaped 14ct yellow and white gold, open-work clasp, attached to three strands of pearls.
The clasp has a tongue and grove closure with a safety clip. The back of the clasp has a yellow gold section (marked “I.Y.L”; “14K”; and another unidentified mark), and a white gold section (marked “I.Y.L”; “N”; “14K”). “I.Y.L is presumably a maker’s mark. “14K” indicates that both sections are 14ct gold. The back of the clasp has a pierced design.
The front of the clasp has curved yellow gold elements with a roughened finish and curved white gold elements which are set with diamonds; rubies and sapphires. There are 14 round, old-cut diamonds (circa 0.45ct total). There are 19 square-cut rubies (circa 0.80ct total) and eight round-cut rubies (circa 0.16ct total). There are 13 square-cut blue sapphires (circa 0.55ct). There are eight round cabochon polished dark blue sapphires (circa 0.65ct total).
The three strands of cultured salt water pearls are as follows:
a): 39cm long (exclusive of clasp); 46 round, to slightly ovoid, pearls (circa 6.5 to 7.2mm diameter; light cream with rose overtones; good lustre with slight blemishes).
b): 40.5cm long (exclusive of clasp); 44 round, to slightly baroque pearls (circa 7.2 to 7.8mm diameter; light grey with rose overtones; good lustre with slight blemishes).
c). 42cm long (exclusive of clasp); 47 round, to slightly ovoid, pearls (circa 7.0 to 7.5mm diameter; light cream with rose overtones; good lustre with modest blemishes.
